The site is usually culturally and biologically diverse and attracts tourists who have a common interest in nature, wildlife and culture.
A fundamental element of an Eco Tour is the education of environmental issues such as, the protection of natural resources or endangered species, usually relevant to the destination. This may be conducted through lectures, involvement in conservation projects or simply by learning from a knowledgeable tour guide with a special commitment to consider environmental and socio-cultural issues in all aspects of your trips.
These considerations may include working with the local community, the restriction of visitor numbers or funding conservation projects in the area.
By choosing to go on an Eco Tour you will be given a unique opportunity to learn and experience nature, to interact with the local communities in their day to day lives, and to have some impact on the lives of the locals even as they earn directly from your visit. In addition a greater awareness of environmental issues will be developed as well as learning practices that can be incorporated in to your everyday routine on your return home.
Below is a comprehensive list of Ecotourism sites in Uganda:

Budongo Central Forest Reserve

Budongo Central Forest Reserve is the largest surviving natural forest in Uganda with a total surface area of 825sq.km. It covers the districts of masindi, Hoima and Buliisa . This is a true forest! Very little illegal activity and encroachment has ensured that the forest remains as natural indeed intended it to be. Visitors seeking the serenity and calmness of being next to nature should opt for Budongo! Professionally preserved and managed by the National Forestry Authority, the forest is divided into three zones. Its strict nature reserve is the oldest in the country while its buffer zone allows Eco-Tourism and Research to prosper and its production zone caters for commercial activities.

Kaniyo-Pabidi Eco-Tourism Site

The site is located in the North Eastern part of Budongo Forest Reserve. It is a natural habitat and a home of about 120 Chimpanzees. However only one group consisting of about 30 chimpanzees has been fully habituated for Eco-Tourism purposes. There are also other primate species such as black and white colobus monkey, red-tailed monkey, blue monkey, vervet monkey and baboons.
Part of Kaniyo-Pabidi is contiguous with Murchison Falls National Park and Bugungu wildlife reserve which are managed by Uganda Wildlife Authority. Hence some savannah grassland species can be sighted in Kaniyo-Pabidi. These include bush bucks, red and blue duikers, bush pigs, warthogs, lions, water bucks and buffaloes.
There is prolific bird life especially the chocolate- backed kingfisher.
This area is home of a variety of tree species like mahogany and the Celtic family.
Some of the trees are known to posess medicinal qualities. Butterflies, moths and tropical flowers are abundant. Forest trails at this site are well developed and well maintained for tourist purposes.
Tourist activities include chimp tracking, bird watching, forest walks, conservation education and chimp habituation and camping.
Busingiro Eco-Tourism Site

Busingiro Eco-Tourism Site is located in the south western part of Budongo Forest Reserve. Like Kaniyo-Pabidi, this area is a habitat for several primate species including chimpanzees, monkeys and baboons. However the chimpanzees in Busingiro are not yet habituated for visitor tracking.
Birds, butterflies, reptiles, small mammals and other micro organisms form the eco system that makes this particular site enviable.

Activities in Busingiro include forest walks, bird watching, primate identification, conservation education, and research and butterfly identification, among others. There is a primate research station on the site of an old sawmill at Sonso. The forest trails at this site are well developed and well maintained for tourist purposes.
Bugoma Ecotourism Site

Bugoma Central Forest Reserve is located in Hoima District. It covers a total surface area of 41,144 hectares. The site is endowed with a variety of tourist attractions such as chimpanzees, monkeys, reptiles, birds and butterflies and tree species some of which endemic to Bugoma. Forest trails totaling 30 km long divided into loops of 200 meters each have been developed.
The reserve is near the oil exploration sites which has precipitated the migration of many grassland species due to habitat disturbance. Those that can occasionally be seen include Uganda kobs, buffaloes, and elephants.
The reserve is accessible through a dirt road 70 km. from Hoima Township. Hoima is approximately 200 km. from Kampala. There is also an Airstrip for light aircraft s at Kisaru Tea Estate

Mpanga Forest Reserve

It is located 37 Kms west from Kampala along the Masaka Rd. It is a beautiful forest which ahs been conserved as a scientific research site since 1953. It has trails form which visitors can view the abundant bird life, butterflies, monkeys and so many other attractions. There is a drum making industry at Mpambire village near Mpanga forest. It is a home of the Royal drum makers. The trees for making these drums are got from Mpanga Forest reserve.

Bulago Area

Bulago is best visited as an extension of a trip to Sipi Falls or Sisiyi Falls, to inspire you by paying a visit to this scenic village. To get there you turn off to Kamu’s Corner from Kaserem on Kapchorwa road, the road winds through some superb cliffs and passes through a rocky gorge before reaching Bulago, that’s if you’re not daring enough to use ladders

Kalinzu Eco tourism Site

Kalinzu forest reserve is an extension of the better known Maramagambo forest. Pitched at the top of the Albertine Escarpment the 147 sq km reserve is a natural forest teaming with 414 species of trees and shrubs, 378 species of birds such Great Blue Turaco, Sun Birds and Black and White Casket. Six different species of primates are found here like Blue Monkey, Vervet Monkey, Black and White Colobus and Chimpanzees

Sipi falls

Located 10 KMs from Sipi Falls, in the boundaries of Mt Elgon National Park is the forest exploration center. Designed to accommodate and train children from local schools, it is now open to tourists, with 4 wood cabins, 4 tents and camping grounds.

Ssezibwa Falls.

The falls are formed when water over a rocky surface into a natural pool at the bottom. The main draw is this falls is closest natural waterfalls to Kampala and can be visited with little time to spare. Legend has it that this river was given birth to by a woman in the years gone. Until recently this was a run down and neglected place visited only out of curiosity. Things have moved on today and the gardens are well trimmed, hiking trails with wooden walk ways built and a restaurant to cater for visitors

Gorilla Express- 3 Days/2Nights

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is located in the heart of the rainforest in the southwest corner of Uganda. These ecotours allow you a chance to enjoy these sites. Some five parks, in the Western section of the country, are selected for a comprehensive exploration.

Kibale Forest has the highest number of primates in Africa - thirteen species in all, including red, black and white colobus, blue monkeys, baboons and a large number of chimpanzees. A forest walk and Habituation Experience provides a high possibility of seeing and hearing the vast number of chimps and other primates playing and jumping around through the forest. With over 300 bird species recorded in the forest, Kibale boasts of many rewarding experiences not thought of in some other forests of the world. An excursion to Bigodi and Magombe wetlands gives the opportunity of seeing the unusual birds, chimps, baboons, monkeys and other primates which live around the swamp.

See abundant game in Queen Elizabeth park including buffalo, tree-climbing lion, leopard, warthog and the ever present hippo. Birds are everywhere – on the kazinga water channel, in Kyambura and Maramagambo forests, on game tracks! The beautiful steeply forested Kyambura Gorge is home not only to chimpanzees but also the red-tailed monkey, black and white colobus and many bird species. Around Ishasha go on the hunt for the famous tree-climbing lions which lounge nonchalantly on old fig trees.

Further south in Bwindi go gorilla tracking and see other primates, birds and butterflies before continuing to Mgahinga, which is part of the Virunga Conservation Area, for gorillas and breathtaking volcanoes. Track gorillas again or climb a volcano, go birding, take in the breathtaking landscape or visit local Batwa animist communities. Lake Mburo, one of Uganda’s most striking parks rich in birds, hippo, buffalo, zebra. Visitors are briefed on conservation by four different park officials/wardens. A gorilla’s DNA is 97% - 98% identical to that of humans, so it is not surprising that their name actually derives from the Greek word ‘Gorillai’ which literally means a ‘tribe of hairy women’. In fact the Gorilla is the next closest living relative to humans after the two chimpanzee species.

Gorillas are almost entirely herbivorous. They eat berries, roots, shoots, fruit, leaves, bark, bamboo and wild celery, and occasionally ants. An adult male can consume up to 30 kilos of food each day. As well as having fingerprints, gorillas also have unique 'noseprints'.
The Mountain Gorilla (Gorilla beringei beringei) is recognized as a sub-species of the Eastern Gorilla. Longer and darker hair distinguishes the mountain gorilla from other gorilla species; these physical characteristics enable it to live at high altitudes were other gorilla species would be immobilised by the cool temperatures.

For more about Gorilla and safaris contact Eco-Royal Voyages Travel Services
Uganda Gorillas

Gorilla tracking is a very captivating activity; it involves walking in the wilderness in search of these great apes. Mountain gorillas are extremely social, and live in relatively steady, unified groups of about 12 animals, consisting of one or more dominant silverback males, some younger blackback males and females and their infants. Mountain gorillas held together by long-term bonds between adult males and females. Relationships among females are relatively weak. These groups are non-territorial; the silverback generally defends his group rather than his territory. In the Virunga Mountain Gorillas, the average length of tenure for a dominant silverback is 4.7 years. We will aim to find some of the tree climbing lions that are unique to the lakeside as well as enjoying the abundant wildlife that flourishes from the underground waterways that originate a short distance uphill in the Ngorongoro Highlands.
In the late afternoon we'll drive out of the park for dinner and overnight at Lake Manyara Hotel.
Day 11
After breakfast and collecting our packed lunches we will drive to the shores of Lake Eyasi where you will be introduced to the extraordinary people who belong to an indigenous tribe known as the 'Hadzabe'.
The wa'Hadzabe are one of the last remaining hunter-gatherer tribes in East Africa and live fascinating and impressive lives in the bush, not requiring any huts or physical infrastructure, living a subsistence lifestyle that relies on their skills in hunting and foraging.
Our Hadzabe friends will be very pleased to teach you to shoot their traditional weapons which they make from materials which occur naturally in their immediate environment.
In the evening you will share dinner with the tribesmen and as the day draws to a close will have the rare privilege of sharing in their threatened social world, while they sing traditional songs and perform tribal dances around an bonfire.
The evening is a magical one and full of atmosphere. Tonight you will stay in tents in order to be close to the bushmen for a very early rise tomorrow morning.
Day 12
We will be woken early in the morning to go hunting with the bushmen. This is no mere performance. The bushmen rely on these techniques to survive and you'll need to be very attentive and at times quiet while they demonstrate their use of locally made poisons in incapacitating the poor creatures that keep our friends alive.
At around 09:30 after the hunt we'll return to our camping site to take breakfast. From here we'll proceed with lunch boxes to Lake Eyasi where we aim to see the unrivalled spectacle of countless colourful flamingo on the lake's shores.
In the afternoon we'll transfer to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and will take dinner and spend overnight at the Ngorongoro Wildlife Lodge.
Day 13
After breakfast at the lodge we will drive through the northern Ngorongoro Conservation Area, pausing at times to view game as we move towards the endless plains of Serenget i National Park.
En route to the Serengeti we'll stop at Olduvai Gorge, where Richard and Mary Leakey discovered palaeontological fragments which some evolutionists still believe represent the remains of 'Early Man', 'Zijatropus'. After a game drive in the Southern Serengeti we'll retire for dinner and overnight at the Serengeti Sopa Lodge.
Day 14
For the best sunrise game viewing opportunities we need to be woken very early this morning. We'll do a morning game drive until around 09:30 on which we hope to be able to disturb some lions as they sunbathe on the kopjes or take their morning draughts along the waterways we'll follow. Then it will be time to head south again to our lodge where we'll have breakfast. Further game driving will return us to the Ngorongoro Crater lip where we'll have dinner and overnight at the Sopa Lodge.
Day 15
This morning, after breakfast, for the very best encounters we should aim to be amongst the first parties to descend into the Ngorongoro Crater after the gate opens at 06:30, so we should do our best to rise early. Home to one of the densest concentrations of wildlife on the planet the Ngorongoro Crater is known widely as the eighth wonder of the world and hosts the endangered black rhino species which we may chance to see. We'll view game here until late afternoon before ascending to the lip again from where we'll transfer for dinner and overnight at Tarangire Sopa Lodge.
Day 16
After breakfast at the lodge we'll collect our lunch boxes and enjoy a game drive in Tarangire National Park on which we can typically expect to see many roaming elephant, rare Baobab Trees and possibly even the tree-climbing python. Early in the evening we'll drive to L'Oasis Lodge in Arusha for dinner and overnight.
Day 17
By this morning we'll need to have a made a decision:
Option A: MAASAI VILLAGE
After breakfast at the lodge we'll drive to Lengijave to visit some Maasai families. Visitors always relish this experience hugely. You'll be invited into the hut of the senior wife who is present and have the opportunity to discuss many aspects of her life in the Maasai tribe: what it is like being one of several wives; how the men train to become warriors; some fascinating rules about hospitality and travelling, and many more things about why the world respects and values this unique tribe. We'll have a traditional lunch with the family and afterwards enjoy a walk in their environs on which we'll have the chance to discuss many issues that affect the tribe, projects that are underway to improve their standard of living without threatening their way of life and anything else that will interest you about traditional village life. In the evening we'll return to L'Oasis Lodge for dinner and overnight.
or
Option B: COFFEE TOUR & LAKE DULUTI
After breakfast at the lodge we'll drive to Tengeru Village located on the slopes of Mt Meru. From here we'll enjoy a coffee plantation tour. We'll visit the locally owned and run farm and later participate in processing the coffee from the roasting of the beans to the testing of the very cup of coffee that you yourself have made. For lunch we'll join some Meru tribes people for traditional food and afterwards take a walk to the legendary caldera lake, Duluti. This is a volcanic water feature of unknown depth where it is possible to hire canoes and paddle freely across its width or along its shores. There are also excellent opportunities for bird viewing, and tree identification. Later we'll drive back to L'Oasis Lodge for dinner and overnight.
Departure dates
The departure dates for all our safaris, tours and treks are totally flexible according to your own personal needs (subject to availability). Please contact us for further and more detailed info, as well as information on photographic travel packages, safaris, tours and treks into Tanzania.

Welcome To Uganda

Eco Royal Voyages In the evening we'll return to L'Oasis Lodge for dinner and overnight.<u1:p></u1:p>

or<u1:p></u1:p>

Option B: COFFEE TOUR & LAKE DULUTI<u1:p></u1:p>

Later we'll drive back to L'Oasis Lodge for dinner and overnight.<u1:p></u1:p>

Departure dates<u1:p></u1:p>

The departure dates for all our safaris, tours and treks are totally flexible according to your own personal needs (subject to availability).
